Usual thickness, nominal 1/4” (6mm)
Also available in 3/8” - 1/2” - 3/4” - 1” where greater strength is required.
Tempered plate glass (heat treated) Bridge windows, passenger deck windows, control towers, portlights, hazard location glazing
Heat absorbing Solex (blue tint) Glare reducing windows
Sun heat-reducing windows, control towers
Solargray (gray tint) Observation lounge, skylights, double glazed units
Insulating glass units Manufactured with many glass combinations. However, thicknesses listed below are most common:
3/4” thickness (1/4” glass + 1/4” airspace + 1/4” glass)
1” thickness (1/4” glass + 1/2” airspace + 1/4” glass)
Air conditioned spaces, areas where heat transfer / condensation is a problem
Bullet-resisting plate glass Protection against firearms, pressure chamber windows, protecting shields
Electrically heated glass Bridge windows, observation towers, crane cabs, humidity and temperature control windows
Wire glass Fire safety boundary, fire doors
A-0 Glass SOLAS / IMO A-0 bulkheads, A-60 Bulkheads with dedicated sprinklers
